BUHARI DECIDES TO LOOK INTO ASUU STRIKE

President Muhammadu Buhari-drove Federal Executive Council will, at its meeting on Wednesday (today) settle on the requests of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The Minister of Labor and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who gave this sign in a meeting with writers on Tuesday, said the college instructors had pondered on the offers made to them by the administration at a meeting on August 17.

Likewise, the union, in an announcement on Tuesday, said it would cancel its strike subsequent to getting a positive reaction to its requests from the Federal Government.

Ngige, in the meeting with columnists clarified why ASUU did not go to a meeting it was planned.

He said the union, in a letter dated August 28, expressed that it had considered offers made by the legislature and made its counter-offer.

The pastor said the Federal Government would consider on the union's counter-offer.

"Tomorrow (today, Wednesday) is Federal Executive Council meeting and there are perspectives that we will require FEC endorsement to go ahead with. From that point, we will meet with the ASUU group either tomorrow night or Thursday morning, whichever will be more helpful," Ngige included.
